Hakan Sümer came in first in 4th Atıf Yılmaz Short Film Competition with film named ‘Sonuç (Result)’.

4th Atıf Yılmaz Short Film Competition, which was organized with cooperation of Forum Mersin, and Mersin University and that witnessed great excitement with participation of 237 works of 226 film-makers, was concluded. Hakan Sümer came in first with the film named ‘Sonuç’.

Award ceremony of the competition was held with presentation of Vatan Şaşmaz on May 30th, on Saturday in Atıf Yılmaz Square of Forum Mersin AVM.

Atıf Yılmaz Short Film Competition that was organized fourth times this year in the memory of Atıf Yılmaz, master director of Turkish cinema, was concluded with a premiere. Mersin Deputy Governor Eyüp Sabri Kartal, Actress Deniz Türkali, Head of Culture Department of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Aşkın Günay, Provincial Culture and Tourism Manager of Mersin Bahaeddin Kabasakaloğlu, Mersin University Communication Department Deputy Dean Senem DuruelErkılıç and many participants attended the premiere that was held in Atıf Yılmaz Square of Forum Mersin.

We are experiencing the pride of commemorating Atıf Yılmaz in Mersin where he was born

Adem Erol, AVM Manager of Forum Mersin, who made opening speech of the premiere, stated that they are experiencing the pride of commemorating Atıf Yılmaz, master director of Turkish cinema who deceased in 2006 in Mersin where he was born with an organization worthy of his name for art in 100th anniversary. Erol said that “Project was begun while we named after our master director to our one square before opening of Forum Mersin.  We held commemorative ceremonies for Atıf Yılmaz each year until 2012, and then Atıf Yılmaz Short Film Competition project that we started with cooperation of Mersin University in 2012 and fourth organization was performed this year with your participation”. Erol, remembering that first Best Short Film Prize was given to  Rezan Yeşilbaş in Atıf Yılmaz Short Film Competition in the first year in Cannes Film Festival with film named Silent stated the followings:

“Film named Ziazan of Derya Durmaz to whom we gave first prize again last year had Jury Prize and Audience Prize. Number of competitor, work number and quality of films made increase every passing year. This year, we had 237 works with peak participation for Atıf Yılmaz Short Film Competition, first year 158 works had competed, second year 166 works had competed and third year 215 works had competed.

I celebrate those who received Prize this year in advance, and within this scope I express my endless thanks to Mersin University that supported us in our four-year competition  adventure, valuable director, director of cinematography, scenarist, producer, actor, author, all of our jury members who showed success on their own area  and who spare time to our competition in spite of their intense work load, all of our competitors who shared their valuable works with us, you valuable press members not leaving us alone in our this special day, Members of the Regulatory Board, Mersin University Communication Faculty Radio Television and Cinema Department Senate Member Ass. Prof. Dr. Hakan Erkılıç, Daraba  Agency Chairman Cezmi Yılmaz and Laden Aşçıoğlu who made great efforts in realization and management of my project, Murat Telli who made great effort for Forum and project for years, and of course Dear Mrs. Deniz Türkali who supported our idea for Atıf Yılmaz Short Film Competition  from the first moment and made always supported us  with jury membership.

And a last thank for Atıf Yılmaz , master director, who ensured that we made this competition, encouraged many amateur and professional movie lovers to go after their dreams and who became immortalized with his films leading to unforgettable works…”

I do not want competition to end

Actress Deniz Türkali started her speech as Mersin giving me Atıf Yılmaz”, drew attention for importance of Atıf Yılmaz Short Film Competition and stated that “I think that short film competition is very important. As you said, each year there is much more participation and we have difficulty in selecting them. I want the competition to continue for long years. I do not want it to end”.

Next they is should be transformed into festival 

Mersin University Communication Faculty Deputy Dean Senem DuruelErkılıç stated that participation for Atıf Yılmaz Short Film Competition has been increasing gradually, and it is very valuable competition. Erkılıç said that “Master Atıf had always a young spirit. Short film is a situation that should have a young spirit”. Erkılıç drawing attention that 2016 will be 10th year of death of Atıf Yılmaz stated that “Atıf Yılmaz Short Film Competition should be transformed into festival next year. For this, we started to take some steps”.

Atıf Yılmaz, the pride of Mersin

Aşkın Günay, Culture Department Chairman of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, stated that participation number for Short Film Competition has been increasing each passing day, and director Atıf Yılmaz that carried woman subject into films at the most is a rightful pride for Mersin.

Mersin is one of the provinces adding value to cultural life of Turkey  

Mersin Deputy Governor Eyüp Sabri Kartal drew attention that Atıf Yılmaz is one of the most important names of Turkish cinema sector, and stated that “A short film competition organized for this name is a pride for Mersin. Mersin is one of the provinces adding value to cultural life of Turkey”.

Prize of 6 thousand TL for the film named ‘Sonuç’

Films, which came in with selection of jury following speeches, were explained. Accordingly, first Prize of 6 thousand TL was obtained by Hakan Sümer with ‘Sonuç’ film in 4th Atıf Yılmaz Short Film Competition.  Ziya Demirel participating into competition with ‘Salı (Tuesday)’ film gained second Prize of 3 thousand 500 TL, and  Ömer Çapoğlu gained third prize of 2 thousand 500 TL with ‘a Short Film on Wong Kar Wai’.

Özlem Güler, owner of the film ‘LiEzmani – – Gökyüzünde (In the sky)’ and having highest likes from voting of Facebook gained Special Prize of Forum AVM in 4th Atıf Yılmaz Short Film Competition.

Altan Yücel gained Women Special Prize of Forum Mersin with the film ‘Esinti (Breeze)’ selected among films having theme of ‘Woman’ apart from the works that jury members determined for the first three.

The premiere night was ended with watching ranking films.
